Created in 2023 as the first in a planned series of works. Yardage created at future Weaving Water Workshops will be made into Droplets that connect the project to various bodies of water around Minnesota and beyond.

Statement

Sarah Nassif (born Anchorage, Alaska, 1973). Natural woven fiber sculpture titled "Droplet (Mississippi River)," 2023. Created from recycled and found natural fiber, organic indigo dye, Mississippi River water and snowmelt. Weaving Water is a public art project exploring the intersections of water, weaving and shared experience both visible and invisible. Participants transform plain yarn or cloth through a series of steps: folding and binding the cloth or fiber, wetting it out in water from site-specific locations, dipping in indigo dye vats, unfolding to reveal the pattern made. These dyed materials are transformed again as participants weave them into new cloth on the SAORI loom, obscuring the patterns made as these fibers become part of a new whole. The M hosted one of the Weaving Water workshops in 2021 as a part of the "Many Waters" Family Day. "Droplet" was created from yardage made in sever Weaving Water Workshops. Diameter: 23 in.
